Redefining
“Redefining” is about a couple that is facing a breakup. Throughout the song, I admit darker, personal realizations while asking open ended questions about whether or not my relationship can survive. (Or at least, “Can I keep you around if I can’t change..”)
One thing is for certain, the conscious effort required to change yourself every day (in order to redefine or show up for your partner in different ways) is harder than I thought.
Hindsight is always 20/20 and now that I have it, I’ll say this: You shouldn’t have to change yourself very much if your relationship is healthy! Either accept all of each other for who you each are in that moment or do not. Why waste time looking for “potential” ? It is difficult enough to try and change yourself and it’s suicide trying to change someone else…
